The Government of Goa on September 21, 2026, issued the Goa Legal Metrology (Amendment) Rules, 2026, to further amend the Goa Legal Metrology Rules, 2011.
The following has been stated: -
•Goa amended the Legal Metrology Rules, 2011, introducing definitions for calibration, low-risk weights/measures, self-certification, third-party certification, standards and repair.
Reference, secondary and working standards will now be subject to prescribed verification, certification and custody requirements.
•Bullion transactions must mention gold purity in Karat, net weight and amount on cash receipts, with inspection powers given to Legal Metrology Officers.
•Registration of manufacturers, repairers and dealers will be primarily online and self-declaration based, with revised validity, fees, security deposit and compliance requirements.
•New improvement notices and revised suspension/cancellation provisions provide for corrective measures, appeals and action against non-compliance.
They shall come into force on September 21, 2026.
